12 Qs of Christmas - “Leicester’s Funnyman” Dave Rees

1. Highlight of 2009?
There have been many wonderful moments, but I couldn’t possibly single out one of them.
2. Low point of 2009?
Stuff, you know!
3. PopArt moment of 2009?

Well this would definitely be DJing in the PopArt marquee at Indietracks - the tent was rammed with enthusiastic indie kids til gone 4am, all dancing to anything and everything we played. Oh, what joy!

4. Single of 2009?

I’ll say ‘In The Flowers’ by Animal Collective as my song of the year, but I feel a bit bad cos it wasn’t actually released as a single. So my favourite singles were probably ‘Crying Lightning’ by Arctic Monkeys, ‘Heads Will Roll’ by Yeah Yeah Yeahs and ‘Fax of Death’ by Pop-Art favourites the Laurel Collective.
5. Album of 2009?

Up to last week I would have said The Duckworth Lewis Method’s self-titled LP. But I’ve recently bought and loved ‘Hunting My Dress’ by Jesca Hoop and I’d have to say that that takes the prestigious title!

6. Best live band of 2009?

This would have to be the truly epic return of Faith No More at Brixton Academy, they were incredible.

7. Film of 2009?

Films, films… what films did I see this year? Er, may have to say Inglorious Basterds as that was the only film I saw in the cinema. Bit embarassing.

8. TV show of 2009?
University Challenge, I can’t miss it. The Thick Of It was also fantastic.

9. Hero of 2009?

Um… I guess I still love Barack Obama. Ooh, bit of politics!

10. What do you hope to achieve in 2010?

Get some new gags.

11. Who else is worth looking out for in the coming 12 months?
I’m very much looking forward to the new albums from Los Campesinos!, The Fall and eels… but you already know of them don’t you?
12. How will you be spending Christmas?
At home with the Rees family: presents at 11, dinner at 3, Guardian Quiz of the Year at 5, Telegraph Quiz of the Year at 7. Can’t wait!
And the End of the Decade Bonus:
13. The Noughties  - how was it for you?
Superb thank you very much!
